NEW ART WORK

 Well, I got an invitation to participate in the Art group in our community, Blue Skies of Texas. In addition to that I was given the opportunity to display some of my art in the community art gallery on the 1st floor of the main building.

I was given 2 spaces & when I received the letter with the space numbers I got Al & I went to find them. The first spot was a nice large size that allowed me to hang a big heavy project I did many years ago. The other space almost floored me.  It was toward the front & you have to go by it to go almost anywhere on that side of the building. It is the busiest part of the gallery & the space is about 10 ft long so I have enough room to hang 12 paintings of varying sizes.

That weekend we were told to set up & we got all the paintings posted on the wall but I was very unhappy with 4 small paintings & decided I needed to get motivated & create some new paintings...so I had my marching orders & a week later I finished 4 new paintings but now they have to cure for 3 weeks. I will have these spaces until June & then we get to put in for spots for the next season. This was my first time doing this so I had no idea how it worked but all residents can participate but the art has to be done by the resident. Each person that signs up will have an opportunity to pull a card with a space # & if you aren't there for the event then one of the coordinators will pull a card for you & then mail you the letter with the space numbers that were assigned to you. So I keep that spot until June & I can change the artwork during that time.  Then we start all over again in June. The nice thing is that we can sell our art projects.

So, now I can relax & do some paintings that I REALLY want to do & start thinking about what to do in June.LOL. The photo on the right is the my space. The paintings I don't like that I will be replacing are the smaller ones on the right on either side of the Framed, rectangular painting.  The 4 paintings below are going to replace the 4 hanging on the wall. These paintings were just finished yesterday & still drying so the colors &over-all design are subject to change as the paint dries & when the varnish is applied. Feel free to contact me at nwdenison@gmail.com if you have any questions

WHAT'S NEW!

GREAT NEWS....MY BOOKS ARE NOW AVAILABLE ELECTRONICALLY!

Go to the page "NEDRA'S BOOKS for more information & pricing

MY LATEST ART

Well, between my shoulder surgery the beginning of March & the Carona virus I have not done very much. That will have to change as the  business' that are displaying my art are opening up & one of my paintings has already sold so I need to try to get my creative juices going so I can replace that painting.

Since it takes at least 3 weeks for a painting to be ready that means I have to get busy.

This painting is the first painting I did after my surgery. I used the same colors as the one I did for my table top that now stands in my living room but the colors turned out totally different on the canvas I did. Nothing wrong with it, just different LOL

Hard to believe that I used the same colors for both of these but it's true.
The one on the left had the purple as the primary & the one on the left (Table Top) has the red as primary

The table top is shown on it's side next to the love seat where it stands. I bought the quilt before I started the table to & attempted to match colors on the table so that they would go together. I'm thrilled with how it turned out.

#B1 - Lifelike Pyrography From Photographs - Learn to do lifelike pyrography portraits from photographs. This is the book that started it all! It was the first book on the market for over 15 years that helps you learn how to do pyrography portraits with clear, easy to understand step-by-step instructions. This book is for more advanced burners who have already mastered shading techniques. It is chock full of Nedra's tips, tricks and Nedra's smooth shading (gradient tones) techniques. Included is a gallery of some of Nedra's work and their original photograph, a work in progress and step-by-step instructions for a portrait project that everyone will enjoy doing. It's like having my pyrography portrait class in the comfort of your own home! The book is coil bound to lay flat while you're working and has a clear plastic protective cover on the front and back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#B2 - Pyrography 101: A Lesson in Woodburning - 3rd Edition "Pyrography 101" is an original book and online tutorial that was created, written, originated and published on her website in 2002 & in print in 2003 by the artist and author, Nedra Denison. She has been recognized as the originator of the "Pyrography 101" title and should not to be confused with other pyrographers who have started using this title on their websites and videos. This book provides clear, easy to understand step-by-step instructions to help you learn how to create natural, life-like pyrographic art using Nedra’s "smooth shading technique". Pyrography 101 is now in its 3rd edition & better than ever. It contains a lot of new information such as: how burners work & wattage, new resources, new chapters; improved images; updated information & pricing on the pyrography tools & the review chart; 3 patterns (Yaquina Head Lighthouse, American Pride & Enchanting Eyes).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

#B-3 - Pyrography Patterns I have compiled 14 of my patterns into one complete book. The book contains line drawings of each pattern as well as a full-sized copy of the finished piece. It also contains patterns not available individually.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
#B-4 - The Art of Pyrography: Taking Woodburning to New Limits There is life after basswood and I am going to show you all about it! My latest book covers new and fun things you can do with a woodburner and not just on wood. I have included step-by-step projects burning on gourds and a portrait that I am doing on maple burl, but you can use the wood of your choice. Included are some patterns not in previous books and there is a gallery of burnings done on unique canvas' such as paper, tagua nuts, leather, gourds, maple burls, canvas and more. The idea was to give you food for thought about the type of "canvas" that can be used for burning. It's time to step outside the box and take woodburning to new limits. It’s not just woodburning anymore, its pyrography and you can experience the thrill of creating unique one of a kind pyrographic art.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
WOW, it's hard to believe it's 2020!
I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year & I hope it brings you joy & happiness.
Boy I remember as a child that it seemed like it took forever for me to turn 16, then turning 21 seemed like it would never happen.
When my older sister turned 30 my nieces said she was an old fart & my sister was complaining about how time was starting to fly by. It wasn't long before I started to notice the same thing. Instead of time dragging by, once I turned 30 it seemed like every new year got closer & closer together I'm not sure how that works!
Many years ago when I was in graduate school & I did one of my internships working with people in a nursing home. My patients would make comments about how things change as you get old. Well, I was only 30 at the time so it was hard for me to imagine that happening to me & what it would be like. Heck, at that point in my life I was still very athletic playing tennis, racket ball, swimming, hiking, etc.
As I got older & my mother was now a senior citizen I remember her saying as she's looking in the mirror, "getting old is not for the faint of heart". Well, my mom would never lie to me so I knew it had to be true & she was very right. So much for those golden years....don't let them fool you, it's not really so golden. It's more like the rusty years...things don't move like they used to & unfortunately 3 in 1 oil doesn't work on your joints!
Moral to the story is, don't get old!  Not really... but I do highly recommend you take advantage of the time you have to do everything on your bucket list while you still can!
Have a wonderful year!
MY LIFE AFTER RETIREMENT
RETIRED....FOR THE 3RD & LAST TIME!
Yes, Sawdust Connection finally shut it's doors on 9-23-19. I am retired & spending my free time doing what I love most....painting! I have wanted to find time for doing art for many years but it just never happened...either due to hand issues or too much work but that has just changed!
I have not posted for a while because life just got in the way. The bottom line is that I was over-worked & no time for myself let alone posting to my blog.
As I announced on my website in March, I am finally retiring (again) & will be closing down the "store" when all the inventory is gone which seems like it will be sooner rather than later.
So, the next phase of my life will be focused on my art which basically means my life has gone full circle. I started out drawing as a kid & over the years my focus on art evolved & I am back to painting again but using totally different techniques & themes.
Stay tuned & if you want to see what I'm up to please check out my Facebook page. You will be able to see some of my OLD oil paintings as well as my more recent works.
https://www.facebook.com/Art.by.NedraDenison/
Here's my 2 latest pieces
I now have  2 local business' displaying & selling my art. Due to a craft fair this week I didn't have much to display in my newest gallery but it's a start. Now I will get back to work & do more painting so each of them can have a few more paintings on display. No getting bored being retired for me!
